WeirFoulds is pleased to announce that the firm has been ranked in the Legal 500 Canada 2017 edition. WeirFoulds has been identified for our expertise in six areas of practice, with eight of the firms lawyers receiving special mention as part of these groups.

The six practice areas include:

  • Competition and antitrust: the team "acts on the full spread of competition matters but really shines in contentious matters due to the strength of litigator Nikiforos Iatrou. Iatrou recently represented Kobo in its application to the Competition Tribunal challenging a consent agreement between the Commissioner of Competition and e-book publishers.
  • Corporate M&A: "Ian Mitchell's team at WeirFoulds LLP is a key player in the mid-market, and it regularly acts on deals in the technology, financial services, construction and natural resources sectors. Highlights included advising Honeywell on the C$500m acquisition of COM DEV International."
  • Dispute resolution: "WeirFoulds LLP is ‘smart, communicative and dependable', with Bryan Finlay QC singled out as a ‘go-to litigator'. Finlay advised Trillium Motor World as representative plaintiff in two related claims brought on behalf of former Canadian General Motors dealers. Senior counsel Derry Millar is also recommended."
  • Environment: "WeirFoulds LLP's environmental practice has a strong contentious focus, with litigator John Buhlman particularly active in the area. Buhlman recently advised on the sale of a contaminated property."
  • Public procurement: "The procurement practice at WeirFoulds LLP is part of the firm's infrastructure and public projects practice, led by Bradley McLellan and Daniel Ferguson. The firm has been advising municipalities on a series of projects."
  • Real estate: "WeirFoulds LLP advised Skyline on its acquisition of the Deerhurst resort in Ontario and continues to advise on its redevelopment plan. Commercial leasing head Lisa Borsook and real estate head Bradley McLellan are the key contacts."

Special congratulations to Partner Bryan Finlay QC, who is also ranked as a "Leading Lawyer" in  Dispute Resolution - Ontario.
