Mining Act Amendments

Changes to Ontario’s Mining Act (“Act”) and regulations which came into force on November 1, 2012 will have a substantial impact on Ontario’s mining industry.

The changes affect prospecting, staking, surface owner’s rights, exploration work, closure plans and voluntary rehabilitation. They add to compliance costs and, due to a current absence of policy detail and the centrality to the amendments of consultation with Aboriginal communities, create uncertainty.
