Government Contracts and Procurement Law

PUBLIC LAW - Government Contracts and Procurement Law

  • Our lawyers have acted both for and against governments and their agencies in procurement disputes. These cases include challenges made to requests for proposals and similar processes, as well as tendering procedures.

  • We have acted on many cases regarding issues of contract performance and allegations of bad faith by governments and their agencies in the contractual setting.

  • A government contracts case in which the firm has recently acted is Guelph (City) v. Super Blue Box Recycling Corp. (2007), 38 B.L.R. (4th) 1 (Ont. S.C.J.). We successfully defended the City against a multi-million dollar damages claim where allegations of breach of contract, bad faith, misrepresentation and abuse of public office were made.

  • We also acted for one of the parties in the Toronto Computer Leasing Inquiry (Justice Denise Bellamy, Commissioner; 2005) that has led to reforms in how the City of Toronto deals with external contracts, lobbying efforts and internal codes of conduct.
