WeirFoulds lawyer Nikiforos Iatrou leads Competition Bureau to a precedent-setting victory

MAY 30, 2012

In a highly anticipated antitrust decision released yesterday [May 29], Canada's Competition Tribunal has decided in favour of the Competition Bureau in Commissioner of Competition v. CCS Corporation et al., ordering CCS to divest a hazardous waste landfill site that it had acquired over the Bureau's objections. This case was the first merger challenge that the Bureau had brought since 2005, and is only the fifth time the Competition Tribunal has decided a mergers case brought by the Bureau.

WeirFoulds lawyer Nikiforos Iatrou was lead counsel for the Bureau in this matter, which also marks the first time since 2001 that the Competition Bureau has prevailed in a merger challenge before the Tribunal.

Details about the case can be found here:

Mr. Iatrou has been on a secondment to the Bureau since 2009, and will be returning to WeirFoulds in July to continue his practice in competition law and commercial litigation.
