ICSC+Canadian Law 2023

Partners Jeff Cowan, Robert Eisenberg, Abbey Sinclair, Krista Chaytor, Karsten Lee and Brian Kuchar, and Associate Arman Poushin, will attend the 2023 ICSC+Canadian Law conference on Thursday, May 4 and Friday, May 5, 2023. The event is part of a content-focused series that is meant for the professionals who own, create, design, build, lease and consult across the shopping centre industry in addition to landlords and tenants, such as lawyers, architects, consultants, marketers and more.

Thursday, May 4

Jeff will speak as a panelist during "Property Taxes 101", which will help attendees get back to basics so they are not drafting clauses related to property taxes in a vacuum, provide an overview of how properties are taxed and assessed, and delve into how sustained development activity and government efforts to tackle affordability concerns may impact shopping centre property taxation.

Robert will moderate "Privacy in the Retail World", a workshop which will unpack the current state of privacy law in Canada as it relates to the retail world, explore the challenges facing landlords and tenants in utilizing data without running afoul of the courts, and provide guidance on establishing best practices.

Abbey, Karsten, Arman and Brian will lead roundtable sessions towards the end of the day. Abbey will lead "What Leasing Lawyers Need to Know About Expropriation". Karsten and Arman will lead "Redevelopments - Landlord and Tenant Considerations and Considerations From an Existing Tenant's Perspective". Brian will lead "Construction Liens and Leasing Issues".

Friday, May 5

Krista will lead a a roundtable, "The New Construction Act, Ontario - What's Changed", to start Day 2.
