WeirFoulds LLP is seeking an Associate to join its thriving Information Technology and Intellectual Property practice group.

The successful candidate will work on a various challenging and diverse matters, representing clients in a wide variety of technology fields with a focus on telecoms, high tech and internet-based companies in managing and assisting with all aspects of their business. They will also provide advice on various contractual, corporate (for-profit and not-for-profit), and regulatory matters, including without limitation those relating to e-commerce, cloud computing, hosting services, outsourcing, telecommunications and internet services, and privacy and CASL-compliance.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Minimum 2-3 years of relevant experience in a similar role
  • Strong technical and legal knowledge
  • Ability to work with lawyers and clerks at all levels, excellent interpersonal skills and be a team player
  • Confidence to manage multiple complex files at the same time
  • Ability to work independently and within tight timelines

WeirFoulds LLP is seeking an associate lawyer to join our thriving Media and Defamation and Aviation and Transportation Practice Group.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • At least 3+ years of complex media/defamation commercial litigation experience.
  • Experience working in the aviation/transportation industry would be advantageous; however, we will consider candidates who do not have direct relevant experience but who have a genuine interest in learning this area of law.
  • Excellent drafting skills.
  • Strong legal, research, advocacy and organizational skills.
  • Excellent academic credentials.
  • Ability to work with lawyers at all levels and be a team player.
  • Ability to balance competing demands as well as being self-motivated, innovative and flexible.
  • Confidence to manage files and clients independently.

Please note your time will be split between:

  • Media and Defamation actions, where you will be representing Canada’s national newspaper, Canada’s largest private broadcaster, major news and entertainment media organizations, prominent book publishers, media insurers and new media start-ups; and

  • At least 3 years of legal experience with a variety of corporate commercial matters and private M&A.
  • Strong technical and legal knowledge.
  • Experience assisting with all matters concerning M&A, corporate financing, general corporate matters, corporate organization and reorganization, and the drafting and negotiation of commercial agreements
  • Ability to work with lawyers, law clerks and staff at all levels; excellent interpersonal skills and a strong team player attitude.
  • Confidence to manage files and clients independently.
  • Excellent academic credentials.
  • Demonstrated strengths in entrepreneurialism including client service, client relationships and client development.
