WeirFoulds is seeking a construction associate to join our thriving Construction Law Practice Group. The ideal candidate will have:

  • 3-5 years of construction law experience
  • Strong technical, legal, research and drafting skills combined with excellent organization skills
  • Demonstrated strengths in entrepreneurialism including client service, client relationships and client development
  • Ability to work with lawyers at all levels and be a team player
  • Able to balance competing demands as well as being self-motivated, innovative and flexible
  • Ability to manage document intensive files
  • Confidence to manage files and clients independently
  • Excellent academic credentials

The successful candidate will work with our team of lawyers on a variety of challenging, sophisticated and diverse matters representing owners, consultants, general contractors, subcontractors and suppliers with resolving project disputes including delay claims, responding to insolvencies and collection of monies owed. Our clients include some of the largest, most significant players in the construction industry with complex and interesting construction issues.

  • 7+ years of experience in the areas of municipal law, land use planning and development law
  • Strong technical, legal, advocacy, research, and drafting skills combined with excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrated strengths in entrepreneurialism including client service, client relationships and client development
  • Ability to work with lawyers at all levels and be a team player
  • Able to balance competing demands as well as being self-motivated, innovative and flexible
  • Confidence to manage files and clients independently
  • Excellent academic credentials with an LLB, JD or equivalent
  • Be in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario

The successful candidate will work with our team of municipal lawyers on a variety of challenging, sophisticated and diverse matters representing a broad range of both public sector and private sector clients, including municipalities, residential, commercial and industrial development interests, construction firms, property owners, investors and private citizens. You will be assisting clients with obtaining or responding to applications and appeals respecting development approvals, planning policy matters, legal opinions and court applications dealing with a wide variety of municipal law issues. You will also provide strategic advice, opine on land use planning and development issues, and negotiate and draft various land development agreements.
