Caelan MacDonald is an Associate in the Commercial Litigation Practice Group at WeirFoulds LLP.
Prior to being called to the bar, Caelan summered and articled with the firm. As an articling student, she supported the Commercial Litigation group on complex matters involving crypto asset recovery and fraud. Her experience includes conducting legal research, drafting memoranda and court materials, managing document production, and assisting with strategy in multi-jurisdictional disputes.
Before joining WeirFoulds, Caelan supported the Honourable Senator Colin Deacon at the Senate of Canada in advancing key policy and legislative initiatives, including Bill C 27 (Digital Charter Implementation Act) to modernize privacy and artificial intelligence regulation, and Bill C 244 (Right to Repair) to empower consumers and promote the circular economy, as well as open banking frameworks and reforms to Canada’s anti–money laundering (AML) regime aimed at strengthening oversight and protecting the integrity of financial systems.
Before her time in the Senate, she contributed to the development and training of large language models (LLMs) at a Canadian artificial intelligence start-up, gaining firsthand experience with emerging technologies and data governance. This background provides her with a practical understanding of complex technical issues that increasingly arise in commercial disputes.
