Carleigh Bassett is a Partner in the Private Equity Practice Group at WeirFoulds LLP.

Carleigh is an experienced corporate and commercial lawyer who has worked in both private practice and in-house roles. Carleigh began her legal career at WeirFoulds LLP where she worked as an associate in the private equity group from 2015-2020. In 2020 she moved to BDO Canada LLP as a senior commercial lawyer on their in-house legal team, where she assisted with merger transactions as well as day to day contract negotiations and governance matters.

Carleigh’s experience includes general corporate structural and governance matters, corporate succession and tax planning, shareholder disputes, drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements, and mergers and acquisitions. She has worked with clients of all sizes and in a wide range of industries, from start-ups and small businesses to large public corporations. On the mergers and acquisitions side, Carleigh has experience working on all types of acquisition sizes and structures, including everything from local mergers to complex cross-border and multi-jurisdictional transactions. Her in-house experience provides her with a unique perspective on the role of corporate counsel as a strategic business and legal advisor, which she brings to all aspects of her client service.
