Jessica Stansfield is a Partner in the Commercial Litigation Practice Group and the Blockchain and Digital Assets Practice Group at WeirFoulds LLP. Jessica is top ranked (Band 1) in the Chambers FinTech Guide “Crypto-Asset Disputes – Canada” category.

Jessica represents clients in complex and high-stakes disputes involving digital assets, fraud and asset tracing, breaches of fiduciary and employment-related duties, and shareholder and partnership claims. She has considerable depth in urgent injunctive relief, particularly freezing and preserving funds and digital assets, as well as with cross-border litigation and jurisdictional disputes. She also advises clients on internal policies and controls, evidence preservation, and regulatory and litigation risks arising from data breaches, cybersecurity incidents, and misappropriations of funds and digital assets. Jessica’s clients include private and public corporations, traditional and decentralized financial institutions, not-for-profit organizations, and individuals. Her focus is on achieving practical outcomes for clients and providing strategic clarity in challenging situations and complex litigation.

Prior to joining WeirFoulds, Jessica practised at a national full-service firm in Toronto, where she maintained a diverse commercial litigation and professional liability practice. She has appeared before various levels of court in Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Prince Edward Island, and federally. Jessica has also represented clients in commercial arbitrations and appeared before numerous administrative tribunals and regulatory bodies.

Jessica is an involved member of the broader legal community. She volunteers with Pro Bono Students Canada as a supervising lawyer and is a contributing author of the CanLII Manual to British Columbia Civil Litigation, which was awarded the Hugh Lawford Award for Excellence in Legal Publishing. In addition, Jessica is an active member of the Association for Women in Crypto and volunteers with St. Michael’s Homes where she acts as a Co-Chair of the Board of Directors.
