Remembering our late friend and colleague Susan Han

In Memoriam

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Partner, friend and colleague, Susan Han, after a brief illness. Susan passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 14, 2024, surrounded by her family.

Susan was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1988, after receiving her LL.B. from the University of Toronto in 1986. In the early part of her career, she had in-house roles at Invesco Canada (SVP and General Counsel) and DundeeWealth (SVP Legal, Compliance & Risk Management), before moving back to private practice. Susan joined WeirFoulds’ Securities Practice Group in 2017, and since then has been a highly valued member of the firm. Susan was a frequent speaker at professional programs and seminars on topics ranging from funds and pension governance to anti-money laundering.

Susan was a dedicated fixture of her community, serving as a board member and Vice-Chair for the Arirang Age-Friendly Community Centre (AAFCC). Prior to serving on the board of AAFCC, Susan led a dedicated team of volunteers to coordinate the acquisition of the Rose of Sharon Long-Term Care home out of receivership by AAFCC. This years long project culminated in 2023, and played a vital role in ensuring that Korean Canadians continue to have culturally appropriate long-term care options that enable them to live with comfort and dignity.

“The passing of our friend and colleague Susan has been a devastating shock for everyone at WeirFoulds,” said Denise Baker, Co-Managing Partner. “She was a wonderful person, an unwavering friend and colleague, and an excellent lawyer with remarkable expertise. We are heartbroken by this loss, and her absence will leave a significant void at the firm.”

Susan will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, dedication to mentoring early-career lawyers, and passion for serving her community. She will be deeply missed by everyone who was privileged to know her.

In honour of Susan’s memory, WeirFoulds has made contributions to the Arirang-Age-Friendly Community Centre and the Women’s Brain Health Initiative.
