After a historical run in the playoffs, the Toronto Raptors took the 2019 NBA Championship in Game 6 against the Golden State Warriors on June 13. Established in 1995, this is the first title in the franchise’s 24-year history. This was also the first time in league history that a finals game was played outside of the United States.
A celebratory parade was held on June 17, which travelled through Toronto’s downtown core and ended with a rally at Nathan Philip’s Square. It is estimated that the parade brought in an additional 2.5 million people to the city that day.
