WeirFoulds Executive Partner Lisa Borsook conferred with Honorary LLD by the Law Society of Ontario

WeirFoulds is pleased to announce that Lisa Borsook, the firm’s Executive Partner and Co-Chair of the Commercial Leasing Practice Group, has been conferred with a degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa (LLD), by the Law Society of Ontario.

The honorary degree was conferred at a Call to the Bar ceremony that took place on June 22 in recognition of Lisa’s outstanding achievements in the legal profession, her leadership in commercial leasing, and her longstanding commitment to advancing women in law.

Each year, the Law Society awards honorary doctorates to distinguished individuals in recognition of outstanding achievements in service and benefits to the legal profession, the rule of law or the cause of justice.

Throughout a career spanning more than 40 years, Lisa has been repeatedly recognized by her peers and leading legal directories and ranking bodies, including The Best Lawyers in Canada, Lexpert, and the Lexpert/American Lawyer Media Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada.

Her contributions to the legal profession and to the broader community have also earned her numerous honours, including the Ontario Bar Association Award of Excellence in Real Estate, the Ontario Bar Association Award for Distinguished Service to the profession, the Women’s Executive Network’s Top 100: Most Powerful Women in Canada Hall of Fame, the Lexpert® Zenith Award, the Law Society’s Laura Legge Award, the ICRF Women of Action Award, the Canadian Civil Liberties Association’s Excellence in Law Award, and the 2025 Connect CRE Canadian Women in Real Estate Award.

Beyond her dedication to legal excellence and advancing commercial leasing law, Lisa has been a champion for the promotion and retention of women in the profession. During her tenure as WeirFoulds’ Managing Partner from 2007 – 2012 , she was one of the first female managing partners of a major law firm in Canada and heavily advocated for the inclusion of women on significant and influential firm committees, which played a significant role in creating a more equitable working environment and helped lay the groundwork for the firm’s WeirFoulds Women Committee.

“Lisa’s extraordinary career is a powerful example of what it means to lead with excellence, conviction and purpose,” said Denise Baker, Chair of WeirFoulds. “Her many accolades reflect not only her exceptional contributions to the legal profession but to her dedication in helping pave the way for women in law.”
