WeirFoulds Executive Partner Lisa Borsook Nominated for Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers

WeirFoulds is proud to announce that Executive Partner Lisa Borsook has been nominated for Canadian Lawyer’s 14th annual Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers awards in the “Changemakers” category.

The Top 25 Most Influential recognizes lawyers that have had an impact on the justice system and legal profession in Canada and abroad over the last 18 months, naming the top five lawyers and judges in five categories: “Human Rights, Advocacy and Criminal”, “Business”, “In-house”, “Changemakers”, and “Government/non-profits/associations”.

The “Changemakers” category is designed to honour lawyers “[…] who have been leaders, innovators, or catalysts for positive change in any area of the profession such as diversity, law firm management, education, etc.”, a definition that Lisa has embodied throughout her career, including the last 18 months.

In Lisa’s case, she has been a leader and innovator throughout her career in all of the relevant areas, particularly diversity and law firm management education. Her foundational work as the Managing Partner of WeirFoulds resulted in numerous innovative and groundbreaking changes at the firm, including the creation of the firm’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, with recent initiatives including the implementation of policies which address equity in hiring practices, hosting sessions to better educate the Firm’s lawyers and staff on key EDI issues, and generally fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.

Lisa’s influence can be felt outside of WeirFoulds and in the wider Toronto and Canadian communities through leadership roles with a number of advocacy groups and charitable organizations. She currently serves as both Secretary and a member of the Board of Directors of the Sunnybrook Foundation of Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. As a board member for SCG Legal, and the chair of its Women in Law Taskforce, Lisa is responsible for promoting women’s initiatives amongst 160 firms located around the world, including firms in all of Canada’s provinces. As one of the founding visionaries of the Prosperity Project, a non-profit founded to mitigate the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on women, Lisa has helped advocate for national childcare and early childhood education policies. In addition, she continues to mentor young lawyers and is a frequent speaker at numerous conferences relating to her legal practice among other topics.
