WeirFoulds lawyers published in Your Guide to Charitable Giving & Estate Planning Fall 2023 Edition

Partner Lucy Main and associate Lori Isaj, members of WeirFoulds’ Wills, Trusts & Estates Practice Group, were recently published in the Fall 2023 edition of Your Guide to Charitable Giving & Estate Planning.

Their article, “Charitable Giving in a Will and the Cy- Près Doctrine: Ensuring Certainty and Intention in Gifts to Charities” provides an overview of the recent Ontario court decision in Dors et al. v. The Public Guardian and Trustee. The case involved a Will which left part of an estate to a charity that no longer existed at the time of the deceased’s passing, resulting in the court directing the portion be paid to a charitable organization that most closely resembled the dissolved charity.

Members of the WeirFoulds Wills, Trusts & Estates Practice Group have been proud contributors to the biannually published guide since the Spring 2018 edition. Lucy and Lori were most recently published in the Spring 2023 edition, where the pair discussed private foundations and donor advised funds as vehicles of charitable giving.
