Partner Lucy Main, Co-Chair of WeirFoulds’ Wills, Trusts & Estates Practice Group, and Associate Lori Isaj were recently published in the Fall 2025 edition of Your Guide to Charitable Giving & Estate Planning.
The article, “The Death Binder: Why You Need One and What to Include,” highlights the importance of preparing a binder (virtual or physical) containing essential information and documentation in the event of an individual becoming incapacitated or dying, commonly known as a “death binder” or “legacy binder”. Since Canada lacks a central repository of information that would be required by an attorney for property or care or an executor, this resource is essential for mitigating difficulties and costs, as well as ensuring that an individual’s final wishes are properly fulfilled.
Members of the WeirFoulds Wills, Trusts & Estates Practice Group have been proud contributors to the biannually published guide since the Spring 2018 edition. Lucy was most recently published in the Fall 2024 edition alongside Associate Yatin Sidhu, where the two discussed issues that can arise when a Will is out of date or contains ambiguous drafting.
