WeirFoulds LLP is proud to congratulate Partner Philip Cho on being named a recipient of the Civil Merit Medal at the 20th World Korean Day Government Awards, one of South Korea’s highest forms of recognition for contributions to overseas Korean communities.
Philip’s award recognizes his longstanding commitment to supporting the Korean-Canadian community, particularly through his leadership with the Korean-Canadian Scholarship Foundation (KCSF), the Korean Canadian Lawyers Association (KCLA), and his efforts to strengthen connections among Korean legal professionals across Canada and beyond.
Throughout his career, Philip has been deeply involved in initiatives that promote educational opportunities for young people of Korean heritage.
As former Chair of the KCSF, he played a significant role in advancing the organization’s mission to support the next generation of leaders through scholarships and mentorship opportunities. He continues to support the foundation’s work, including participating in this week’s Sol Gala 2026: Ignite the Spark. As Chair of KCLA, he oversaw the expansion of KCLA from Ontario to establishing chapters in B.C. and the Prairies.
The award also recognizes Philip’s contributions to the broader Korean diaspora community, including his work fostering professional networks among overseas Korean lawyers and supporting the growth and development of Korean-Canadian organizations.
Philip was appointed to the Board of Directors of the International Association of Korean Lawyers in 2020 and was named President (Overseas) in 2025. He recently led the organization in holding their 33rd Annual Conference in London, UK, the first time the conference has been held in Europe.
Congratulations, Philip!
