WeirFoulds Partners help bring LTC home to Toronto’s Korean Canadian community

On June 1, 2023, it was announced that Arirang Age-Friendly Community Centre (AAFCC) acquired the Rose of Sharon Korean Long Term Care Home from the receiver. As part of the acquisition, the facility has been renamed Arirang Korean Long Term Care.

A Canadian registered charity formed to provide a broad range of services to seniors, including specially adapted residential accommodations such as long-term care (LTC) homes, AAFCC enables residents to live with comfort and dignity while building a community bound by a common language and culture.

WeirFoulds Partners Susan Han, who also serves as the Vice-chair of the AAFCC’s Board of Directors, and Philip Cho both worked alongside the AAFCC on this yearslong project to help bring an LTC home back into the hands of the Korean Canadian community in the Greater Toronto Area.

As a 60-bed, Class A facility, Arirang Korean Long Term Care is the first LTC facility in Canada that has a mandate to “provide culturally-specific care to seniors of Korean descent.” The facility will play a vital role in AAFCC’s mission to provide Korean Canadians with an LTC option that provides access to “Korean cultural activities, traditional food and Korean-speaking staff who understand the needs of each individual.”
