WeirFoulds Proud to Continue Supporting the Black Law Students’ Association of Canada and BLSACares

WeirFoulds is proud to continue supporting the Black Law Students’ Association of Canada (BLSA Canada) by sponsoring the 25th Annual National Conference and the association’s charitable branch, BLSACares. The firm will also participate in the BLSA Career Fair, a new feature at this year’s conference. The conference will be held in Toronto on February 12-14, 2016. This year’s theme is “Striding Toward Excellence”.

WeirFoulds partner Frank Walwyn will deliver the Opening Keynote Address at the 25th Annual National Conference. Frank is a Past President of the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers (CABL), and a current member of its Advisory Board. In 2014, Frank was the recipient of the Professional Excellence Award from Planet Africa, presented to individuals of African heritage in recognition of a career marked by hard work, excellence and professionalism, and who have made a profound difference in the lives of people of African heritage globally.

BLSA Canada is a national student-run, non-profit organization founded in 1991 that is committed to supporting and enhancing academic and professional opportunities for black law students in both official languages. This commitment extends to black high school and undergraduate students and the community generally through BLSA Canada mentorship initiatives and the recently founded BLSACares.

WeirFoulds is an enthusiastic participant in programs aimed at promoting and celebrating diversity within the legal profession and the broader community. As one example, WeirFoulds hosts high school students through the Law in Action Within Schools (LAWS) Program, an innovative partnership between the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, Osgoode Hall Law School, and the Toronto District School Board. WeirFoulds is also an active participant in the Law Firm Diversity and Inclusion Network (LFDIN), working in partnership with Legal Leaders for Diversity and Inclusion (LLD).
