WeirFoulds Ranked in Novae Res Urbis Top 10 Development Law Firms in GTHA of 2025

WeirFoulds is pleased to announce that the Firm has been ranked second in Novae Res Urbis‘ (NRU) 27th annual ranking of the top 10 planning and development law firms operating in the GTHA. The firm has consistently ranked highly in NRU’s year-end list, including first place rankings in 2015, 2019, 2021 and 2023.

According to NRU, WeirFoulds maintained its “sterling reputation as one of Ontario’s premier planning and land development law firms” while continuing “to represent a mix of developer/landowner clients and municipalities in appeals before the OLT”.

The publication went on to commend the WeirFoulds team on their representation of the City of Brampton “in obtaining a refusal of an appeal for a 29-storey tower at 2 Bartley Bull Parkway,” in addition to a win on behalf of the Town of Caledon that “concerned appeals seeking to demolish three existing structures at 16054-16068 Airport Road—two of which had been designated by the Town under the Ontario Heritage Act—to build a Tim Horton’s drive-through and two other commercial units.”

Along with the firm’s success in representing the City of Brampton and the Town of Caledon, the article went on to cite achievements including:

  • Representing Losani Homes in obtaining a merit hearing win for contested appeals for 1400 South Service Road in Hamilton. Losani sought approval to develop a mix of townhouse and apartment buildings up to 16 storeys, as well as several standalone commercial/office buildings containing a total of 11,200 square metres of commercial space.
  • A settlement on behalf of Camarro Developments to build two towers of 30 and 34 storeys on a site within the delineated boundary of the Aldershot GO Major Transit Station Area.
  • A settlement for Hamilton Queen & Market Inc. to develop two 31-storey towers and a six-storey mid-rise on a site comprising the majority of a downtown Hamilton city block.

Rankings in the publication reflect the relative frequency with which firms are mentioned in the Greater Toronto Area Edition of NRU for their involvement in some of the most challenging and interesting cases that came before the OLT during this ranking cycle.
