WeirFoulds is pleased to announce that James Kosa, technology and intellectual property partner, has been named by Lexpert as a 2019 Rising Star, Leading Lawyers Under 40. James was presented with the award at the annual Rising Stars Awards Gala on November 7, where his colleagues including Lisa Danay Wallace, Thomas Wong, Julia Sydorenko, Paul Wilson, Chief Operating Officer, and Ralph Kroman, Chair of the Technology and IP Practice Group, sat alongside to applaud James on this honour.
For those in the technology industry, Kosa’s name may be quite familiar. James became partner at his first firm at age 36 and joined the WeirFoulds team in early 2018. He has since been growing a sophisticated client list of technology companies in a wide variety of high technology fields, including telecommunications, cloud computing and artificial intelligence companies, software development companies (traditional and agile), as well as hosting service providers and infrastructure as a service providers. James’ depth of experience – and friendly, ‘techy’ personality – means that he is able to offer his clients clear, practical and well-rounded advice by cutting through the technical jargon.
“James has brought a new level of IP expertise to our firm, and really enabled our clients to tap into relevant legal advice in this part of the market,” says Wayne Egan, Managing Partner at WeirFoulds. “He is a leader in the IP legal bar – a tireless contributor of his time, energy and skill – making him deservedly well respected by his peers and colleagues.”
James is also the president of the Canadian Technology Law Association (CAN-TECH Law), which offers various resources and educational events and training to participants of the technology law industry in Canada, and past Chair of the Canadian Bar Association’s Intellectual Property & Technology Law Section executive.
“I am beyond thrilled to be recognized with this award together with so many impressive legal professionals,” says James. “And I am grateful to my clients, colleagues and friends who took the time to share their support for my nomination.”
The firm congratulates James on this well-earned honour.
